Nelson
Labour Weekend Convention 2024
Those hardy 60 souls / 25 cars that made the journey to Nelson were treated to a superb weekend of activities, food, drink, banter, cruises, shed raids, sightseeing, a Dine & Dance, and a good AGM. All perfectly curated and executed by our Nelson Members Priyani & Rob (and their fine sons who helped out all weekend )
As seems to happen more and more recently, there were a few travel snags with ferries and planes... but mostly those were just minor delays, and those that were affected managed to find alternative options and still made it, maybe just a day later than planned.
Some added an extended trip to their agenda before the Convention, and others tagged on prolonged stays in the South Island after. I think we can all agree that the Nelson, Tasman, and Marlborough Bays District is a fantastic part of the Country, and the Nelson locals turned out in big numbers for our Car Show at the Classic Car Museum as well.
The agenda kicked off with a Meet & Greet at the Tides Hotel, which was perfectly located in downtown Nelson, right on the riverfront. Snacks and drinks were enjoyed, opening addresses were made, and agendas & goody bags were handed out for the next 2 days of activities which included a shed raid to a huge ( 100+ ) English Car Collection, a DJ Dine & Dance at the famous & Lambrettas Cafe, a cruise out to Mapua Wharf, our Car Show at the Classic Car Museum, and culminating with the AGM and another great meal at Thunderbird HQ, a.k.a. the Tides Hotel. Trophies were awarded and formalities were recorded. Your 2024 Committee, including President and all other Officers, announced their preparedness to remain in those roles for 2025, and were unchallenged from the floor. That said, all Committee Members expressed an openness to change, and nominations for Committee positions for the 2025 AGM are welcome before the event.
This year’s agenda allowed for more personal time, and many Members took advantage of this and shopped around Nelson and the Mapua Wharf complex, and several visited the renowned Christmas Shoppe at the Eyebright Country Store in Appleby. The planning that Priyani & Rob put into the weekend was exemplary, and the bar has been set high for next year& Convention, which will be held in beautiful Whakatane on the East Coast of the North Island.
